"Voicing the community's opinions"
I live in town and have a question for our Board of Tax Assessors.  How can you have two new homes built on a pond in the Cro-duk subdivision that are so undervalued?  One home has 4616 sq. ft. and is valued at $200,500, and the other has 3693 sq. ft. and is valued at $206,200.  My home is over five years old and is under 2700 sq. ft. and is valued at over $225,000.  Certain citizens appear to be getting special breaks in regard to their assessed values.

Be aware that the amount of ethanol that is now in gasoline causes the gas to thicken or congeal slightly if the gas is allowed to remain in small gas tanks. Small gas powered equipment should not be stored with gas in the tanks. You will also find that the equipment is harder to start, resulting with more jerks on the cords.

I would like to thank the two nice police officers who let me know that my dogs were out.  I would also like to know - can just anyone ride in the police car who are not police officers?

This is directed at the man and his wife who made some disparaging comments about me while I was out shopping.

I wanted to thank the editor for the piece in the paper about Glennville Christian Academy. It was a lovely tribute to a wonderful school. I also want to ask people to pray that someone with a vision and a heart for Christian education will come along and that GCA will once again be available to those in the community who want their children to have a Christ-centered and loving education.

Does anyone know of anyone in this area who only does cast iron bath tubs? Would they let this be known?

I just got through walking up and down my road picking up other people’s garbage after the truck came through yesterday. People, please contain your garbage within garbage bags or grocery bags or something. Thank you.

I would like to leave a message for the Soapbox. Welcome to Long County. Dr. Waters.

I am not a Christian, and I don’t hide that fact, but I am not like these militant atheists who tell you that you should believe as I believe or I’ll take you to court. But as the same token, I can understand why some atheists are like that after many of my dealings with Christians. I was approached recently and asked if I believe in Christ. I don’t think it’s right to come up and randomly ask someone that. I told them no, I don’t. They got very confrontational about it and very angry. I think that it’s said somewhere, you’ll get more with honey than with vinegar. Just because I believe what I believe doesn’t mean that it’s an affront to you. You can pray for my soul and that’s fine, but don’t yell at me about it. The Constitution says that people have the right to worship as they see fit. No one can tell them otherwise, no government, no mayor, no lawyer, no President, and no judge.

Michelle is a great addition to the Glennville Sentinel. She should be featured in the What’s Cookin’ so the people of Glennville could get to know more about her.

Editor’s note.  Good idea!

This is in reference to the mail carrier on the old Route 1. If you want to see about getting something done, call 1-800-275-8777, and make it known to the government up there what’s going on. There are a lot of complaints, but make sure you leave your name. If you don’t leave your name and phone number, nothing will be done.

I was at a convenience store the other day and overheard what I thought was a black or biracial man say that he doesn’t ride past the Dollar General area because of the high crime and that’s where all the drugs and drug dealers are. But I am here to tell you, that drugs are not just in the “hood.” Blacks/African Americans aren’t the only ones who sell and deal drugs in this area. I thought his comments were very racist. Some things will never change.

This is in response to the reader looking for fresh vegetables to be brought to town. This is being done in Claxton at the 280 and 301 parking lot the third Saturday in June, July, August, and September. Vendors are invited to provide homegrown produce, plants, baked goods, jams, jellies, pickles, and more. The produce must be grown locally, and there is no vendor fee. Call the Chamber of Commerce at 739-1391 for more information. Hope this helps.

I was calling to see if anyone knew how to get in touch with the right person(s) or find out more about government grants for opening your own business. If you could call in and leave the information if you know it, I would really appreciate it.
