Aden Massey
    Aden Massey, 87, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.  The Evans County native and lifelong resident was a member of Hagan United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and trustee.  He was very devoted to his church and serving the Lord.  He was a World War II veteran and served in the 82nd Airborne Division.  After returning home, he was elected to the Hagan City Council where he served for six years.  He was elected mayor of the City of Hagan and served as mayor for 30 years.  The stretch of Hwy. 280 that runs through Hagan was named the Aden Massey Hwy.  In April of 1982, he opened Massey Oil Company where he worked until his death.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Matt Massey.
    He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Josa Bell Sikes Massey of Hagan; three sons and daughters-in-law:  Larry and Jenny Massey of Glennville; and Wayne and Jan Massey and Allen and Evelyn Massey, all of Claxton; grandchildren: Holly and Ken Durrence, Mandy and Wade Heath, Anna and Will Parker, Bubba and Tiffany Massey, Michael and April Massey, Amber and Luke Durrence, and Janet Massey; great-grandchildren:  Skylar, Guy, Madi, Olivia, and Meredith Massey; Wade and Walt Durrence; and Will Parker; and several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, at Hagan United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Ryan officiating.  Burial was in Brewton Cemetery in Hagan.
    Pallbearers were Bubby Massey, Michael Massey, Ken Durrence, Luke Durrence, Will Parker, and Wade Heath.
    Remembrances can be made to the Hagan United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2090 Tellie Akins Road, Claxton, Georgia  30417.
    Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home of Claxton, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
