Two Pike Electric Company employees affected when bucket truck struck a live wire Two Pike Electric Company employees experienced a shocking incident last Wednesday, July 22, in Collins, while the incident knocked out power in parts of Tattnall, Evans, and Toombs counties. While working on a substation on Live Oak Street in Collins at approximately 1:20 p.m., both men were shocked by an electrical current, of up to 115,000 volts. The substation includes both Canoochee EMC and Georgia Power equipment, but the North Carolina based company was a company contracted by Georgia Power. According to sources at the scene, an item of equipment on the Pike Electric bucket truck hit a live wire, shocking both the man in the bucket and also the man on the ground. The two men, both in their 20’s, one reportedly from Alma, Georgia, and the other from Dawsonville, Georgia, were taken to Evans Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released. Both men were conscious after the incident, suffering only temporary disorientation and a rise in blood pressure. EMS Director Willie Mann said no physical injuries were noticeable on the two men. According to Jeff Wilson of Georgia Power, the power outage impacted approximately 4000 customers, but all power was restored within 30 minutes of the incident. According to Laura Travers, Director of Corporate Communications for Pike Electric, the incident is still under investigation, and she had no comment.
