Steve R. Anderson Steve R. Anderson, 63, died peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2009, one day after his birthday, at his daughter’s residence under the care of Hospice of South Georgia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of his life, working in poultry houses in the area. When his health started failing, he moved in with his daughter and her family in Jesup. He served in the Navy from 1967-1969, first serving on the USS Princeton and then transferred to the USS Tripoli. He also served three tours in Vietnam and was part of history when the USS Princeton rescued the Apollo 10 out of South Pacific waters on May 26, 1969. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren fishing, hunting, and telling stories about his Navy days. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Nadean Anderson; two brothers, Earl and Pat Anderson; and two sisters, Gloria Jean and Sybil Grace Anderson. He is survived by daughters, Renae (Gary) Smith of Jesup and Felicia (Chuck) Mohler of Richmond, Indiana; son, Matthew Anderson (Michelle) of Richmond, Indiana; sisters, Helen Hughes of Reidsville and Connie (Bernice) Mitchell of Claxton; sister-in-law, Gwen Anderson of Reidsville; eight grandchildren: Dawn; Dani; Sarah; Jessi; Gary, Jr.; Alexandrea; Charles, Jr.; and Anthony; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and aunts. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 22, at Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry Hightower and the Rev. R.M. Warren officiating.
