David H. Strickland
David H. Strickland, 82, died November 9, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Evans County, except for the time he was in the Korean War. He was one of the original members of the Evans County Wildlife Club, and served on the Board. He was a member of Daisy United Methodist Church and the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group. He worked at C&C Farms as a Plant Superintendent, and, before retiring, he worked for Claxton Poultry Farms. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Mittie Strickland; two brothers, Henry Strickland and CC Strickland; and one sister, Versie Jones.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Martha Futch Strickland of Claxton; one son, David (Cindy) Strickland of Claxton; one daughter, Becky (Eddie) Skeens of Glennville; a nephew he raised, Jason Futch of Tennessee; one brother, Joe G. Strickland (Annette) of Claxton; two sisters, Dicy Williams of Statesboro and Grace Sapp (Howell) of Claxton; five grandchildren: Angela (Ty) Swindell, Ashley and Andrew Strickland, and Tiffanie and Lacie Skeens; two great-grandchildren, Tyson and Addison Swindell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, at Daisy United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Eddie Braswell and Dr. Tab Smith officiating. Burial was in Brewton Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Berry Strickland, Jerry Strickland, Drennon Strickland, Andrew Strickland, Ty Swindell, and Tommy Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were the Men’s Prayer Breakfast Group.
