The unmarked gas line was located behind Green Tea China Buffet Restaurant.

A Glennville City crew working to install new water meters in the alley behind the south side of Barnard Street received quite a scare Wednesday morning, November 18, when they accidentally cut a gas line behind Green Tea China Buffet Restaurant.
“Atlanta Gas had marked the gas lines for us before we started cutting the concrete.  This gas line wasn’t marked.  The machine I use throws off a lot of sparks, so as soon as I smelled gas I shut it down as fast as I could,” said City employee Berry Kicklighter.
As Glennville Police cars and Fire trucks blocked access to the area, the gas was shut off to prevent any further danger.
“A lot of the old gas lines and water lines in the city were not properly mapped.  This gas line actually snakes through the parking lot: I guess they missed this part of the line,” Kicklighter explained.
“The City crews handled everything according to standard operating procedure.  Due to their quick thinking and ability to react quickly, further damage was prevented,” said Glennville Public Works Administrator Stan Dansby.
