What started as an argument between Jeannine Herb and her boyfriend, Jose Angel Bonilla, on Monday night, December 14, ended with gunshots.  Bonilla was pronounced dead at the scene of an apparent suicide.  Herb underwent surgery at Memorial Health in Savannah for gunshot wounds to her face, chest, and shoulder.  She is still hospitalized.
“We received a 911 call of a possible shooting at 1089 Joy Bluff Road in Reidsville.  Upon arrival, Tattnall County Sheriff’s Deputy Murray and Officer Jones of the Reidsville Police Department discovered both Jeanine Herb and Jose Bonilla had been shot,” said Lt. Kevin Keyfauver, Chief Investigator with the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office.
Earl and Carolyn Cartmell identified Jeanine Herb as their niece, and said that she and Bonilla both lived in the home with them.
They told investigators that Herb and Bonilla were arguing before 11 p.m. Monday night.  The Cartmells went to their bedroom and just seconds later they heard gunshots in the hallway.  They found Herb lying on the floor and hurried to call 911.  That’s when they heard another gunshot and saw Bonilla collapse to the floor.
“The case is still under investigation by our department and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation office in Statesboro,” Lt. Keyfauver said.
