Glennville Mite Girls

team is state runner-up

The Glennville Mite Girls are proud to be the GRPA (Georgia Recreation and Parks Association) 2010 Class “C” State Runner-up.
On Thursday, July 8, Glennville Mite girls traveled to Madison, Georgia, for the Class “C” state playoffs. Game one against Putnam County resulted in a win for Glennville, with a score of 6-0. Day two of the playoffs, July 9, saw Glennville facing Wilcox County.  Not playing to the best of their ability, Glennville lost their first game with a score of 10-8. Moving to the loser’s bracket made the Glennville team realize that it would take hard work to fight back, but they faced each team with determination, and it paid off.
Playing hard against Heard County, Glennville was victorious with a 25-11 win. The last game to be played on Friday was against Dodge County - the team that beat Glennville for District Champions. However, Glennville was out for a win and took this game easily in just five innings, with a score of 8-0.
Saturday morning, Glennville again faced the team who put them in the loser’s bracket - Wilcox County. With ease, Glennville took this game in only three innings with a score of 18-2. Now facing Bacon County, knowing that Glennville would have to beat them twice, the girls played with grit and determination and took game one of the championship in five innings, with a score of 21-3.
Having to play three back-to-back games in Saturday’s heat and facing Bacon County one more time, Glennville lost the final game in a heartbreaker, with a score of 9-6.
Coaches Henry Strickland, Charles Greer, and Scott Rogers are extremely proud of the effort and sportsmanship these girls have shown all season. They can hold their heads high and be proud of being GRPA 2010 Class “C” State Runner-up.
