Glennville couple survives
vehicle collision with train
Glennville residents Joseph and Mae Branson survived their vehicle being struck by a moving train on Sunbury Road near U.S. Hwy. 280 in Evans County, and actually only received minor injuries.
The collision with the train occurred on Wednesday, July 21, around 4:30 p.m. as the Glennville couple were traveling over the railroad tracks at this crossing, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The pickup truck was pushed approximately 150 feet down the train track before the train could come to a complete stop.
Joseph Branson, the driver of the 1996 Chevrolet truck, and his wife, Mae Branson, were both taken to Evans Memorial Hospital where they were treated and released for their injuries.
Harold DeLoach was the engineer of the train.
Claxton Fire and Rescue were the first responders at the scene.
Railroad officials and the Georgia State Patrol are still investigating, and the final report was not available at press time.
