by Michelle Wolf Debris was scattered all over Hwy. 144 East at the intersection of Walter Dasher Road in Glennville on Monday, August 3, after a horrific wreck between a Chevrolet Blazer and a tanker trucker. The accident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m., as 72-year-old Derrell Davis of Lilburn, Georgia, drove his 2003 Chevy Blazer southbound on Walter Dasher Road, apparently running the stop sign at Hwy. 144. The 2008 Mack Tractor Trailer, driven by 53-year-old Ronald Paulk of Douglas, Georgia, could not stop in time as Davis pulled in front of him. Visibility at the intersection is extremely difficult due to the angles of the roads. Davis’ Blazer landed in the ditch and lay on its side, almost unrecognizable. Paulk was able to maintain control of his tanker truck, and managed to thread it between two pine trees before coming to a stop in an open field on the south side of Hwy. 144. Both men were transported by ambulance. Davis was rushed to Evans Memorial Hospital in Claxton with critical injuries, and Paulk was taken to The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall with injuries not considered to be life threatening. Paulk was reported to have been treated and released. Davis was airlifted from Evans Memorial Hospital to a hospital in Savannah where he died from his injuries. The accident is currently under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol in Reidsville.
