Helen Smith Helen Dawson Ray Smith, 94, died Tuesday, October
13, 2009, at her son's residence under the care of her family and
Pearls of Life Hospice. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall
County, and taught school for 32 years at Tattnall and Long County
Schools. She was a member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, the
Golden Age Club, and was a loving mother, grandmother, and
great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by husbands, Carnell Ray
and John Smith. She is survived by son, Howard Ray (Edith) of
Glennville; brother, Gene Dawson (Frances) of Savannah; grandchildren:
Vickie Ray, Hal Ray, Rodney "Bob" Ray (Teressa), Cameron Ray, Janet
Maddox, and Scott Bryant; two great-grandchildren; three
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Friday, October 16, at the Chapel
of Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home, with Bro. Ernest Dyal and Bro. Steve
Miller officiating. Burial was in Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Cameron Ray, Reginald Ray, Walter Ray, Kevin Howard, Johnny Dawson, Bobby Cowart, and William Lambert. Brannen-Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of the arrangements.
